not much time to write…

August 30, 2008

It’s been one of those whirlwind weeks…(sometimes I have to remind myself I only have two hands…)  but don’t get me wrong, it’s never a bad thing to be a busy artist.  Just haven’t figured out the best way to juggle things, and I’m not sure my chaotic brain ever will.  I’m putting the final details on the left side of the Pirate’s House mural…

That’s my baby brother Jim Hawkins in the apple barrel…

So close…so very close!  Thanks for reading everyone…hope you have a lovely Labor Day weekend.

oyster fiesta!

August 28, 2008

My little Passion Oysters enjoyed some love in the following Etsy Treasury…despite the fact that August does not have an “r” in it.

Click here to explore the items in this treasury a bit more.  Thanks Jessica, for including my Passion Oysters….ps… if you’re a fan of contemporary art, check out Jessica’s Etsy Store!

where to begin?

August 27, 2008

So many exciting things happening in the studio right now, I don’t even know where to begin!  I just finished a pen & ink drawing for a lovely couple that will be taking some of their new notes all the way to Switzerland this month .

Finally managed to order a few samples of the new “Green Series” from my printer…(It will be like Christmas when they arrive!)…Sold four Foodie Prints to a lovely lady that requested them a little larger…that’s right folks!  Now I can offer a 10×12 (but for the moment, they will have to be special ordered, whereas I have 8×10’s in stock…just email me if you’re interested.)  Found a smidgen of time to draw up a new business card for Bekah, and photographed another house for inking.  Oh yeah, and I received a call from one of my most favorite clients…but I’m keeping that project under wraps for now.  I’m sure I missed a thing or two…but you get the idea…So if I seem a bit scattered for the next few days, know that it’s not the wedding taking over my life, it’s all about business.

Happy Wednesday!

a return to Pirates

August 25, 2008

Nick and I have spent the past 5 weeks traveling, and while I’ve enjoyed every stop along the way…it feels great to get back to some form of normalcy.  Finally some groceries in the house, time to bathe the dog and clean the studio, and a full day of painting.

There is something so rhythmic about layering paint, it was quite relaxing after all the hustle and bustle.

8-16-08 was a lucky day…

August 23, 2008

Not only did I find myself engaged…my aunt won $300 on a scratch-off lotto ticket…and some dear friends of ours were given a car they so desperately needed…but to top things off, my little Garlic was featured in a front page treasury on Etsy! Thankfully…(as I had limited internet access)…the wonderful Robin Lynne captured the following image for my keeping…

Oh to be surrounded by green things! A lucky girl indeed!

did you hear?

August 22, 2008

Nick and I just got engaged!  He proposed 8-16-08 at the Chicago Art Institute. In front of one of my favorite paintings of all time…

“A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat

It was a most magical day, and trip to Chicago.  Thanks to all of you who have already sent your well-wishes…and while it will be hard not to post all the sappy lovey-dovey stuff to this blog…I’ll do my best to keep it simple.  I’ll be posting pictures to my FLICKR account…so be sure to stop by once in a while...CLICK! I needed to paint seeds…

A custom pen & ink of a home or garden makes for the perfect Christmas gift!  And no, the house doesn’t have to be in Savannah for me to draw it…in fact, I rather enjoy drawing the old family home back in North Carolina, or the Beach House in Marco…so hurry and get on the list!  Last year, some folks had to wait until January for their sketch..(I mean, I only have one drawing hand…)…so drop me a line and commission your ink today!

I never could “dissect” things…I loved animals too much (even slimy frogs)…needless to say, biology wasn’t my main subject.  I do, however, like to dissect food.  It’s the hidden surprise on the inside that gets me.  I mean, who would have thought an artichoke had such an intricate network for guts?  Pears were a given…

Pirates House update…

August 17, 2008

Moving right along over there…and let me just say that the entire crew at the Pirate’s House has been such a pleasure to work with…friendly, helpful, and encouraging…not to mention, they have pirates giving tours throughout the day, so I get to hear all about the wonderful history and ghostly encounters that go on around there…

The pirates are coming along nicely, although I had to stop myself from working any further this day.  Sometimes my brush and brain just don’t work together like they should…it’s times like this that I often do more damage than good to my work…so best to put the brush down and pick it back up another day.  This isn’t uncommon on a canvas this size…I mean, it can kind of gobble you up if your not careful…
