a home abroad…

December 30, 2008

My first pen & ink outside of the US! Located in Ontario, Canada, this house was the former home of a friend of mine.  Her daughter grew up in this house, and they had to sell it a few years back.  She commissioned this ink so that her daughter will forever have the memory of time spent there.  Isn’t that sweet?  Thankfully she had some stellar photographs for me to work from.

P.S. now that the Christmas rush is over, I’m free to take on pen & ink commissions!

my gift to the brosef…

December 27, 2008

He paid a visit to Seattle shortly before his three month journey to Central America.  He put in a small request for a painting of the Seattle trees, and here it is.  Directly translated from his photos, however, a bit abstracted…I’m thinking I might paint more like this…

I can finally debut the final paintings of 08.  This here is Max, isn’t he the cutest thing ever?

and the winner is…

December 24, 2008

the house with the Yellow Windows!  Did you figure it out?  Did you guess it was mine 🙂  It was a tight race and a fierce competition, but yellow takes the win with 4 more votes than blue.  Finally, some redemption for the humiliating loss a few years back.

Nick, I love you mucho!   It was a great challenge.   I suppose we’re tied on artful food sculpture contests…so we’ll have to come up with something grand for a tie breaker.  Oh and we might blow up old blue with fireworks today…(Dad’s idea, not mine)

Thanks to everyone who helped settle the score and placed a vote…(especially all you yellow house fans 🙂  Wishing you all a very Merry (almost) Christmas!

We need your vote!

December 22, 2008

A few years back, Nick and I had a pumpkin carving contest.  These were pre-blog days, and the judging was far from anonymous.  We simply emailed all our family and friends and asked them to cast a vote.  I suffered a bitter defeat that Halloween, and it has haunted me ever since.  So when Nick challenged me to a gingerbread house competition, how could I resist?

Here’s how it works…Take a look at the photos below…(in an effort to be fair, we won’t tell you whose is whose)…note that one house has blue windows while the other has yellow.  Then, cast your totally anonymous vote below for your favorite.  The winner will be announced on Christmas Eve.

80 degrees and i need a scarf

December 19, 2008

What would Christmas be without a little crafty fun time?  I don’t care if you could fry an egg on the sidewalk right now, I’m making a scarf…or two…or three…we’ll just see how motivated I get around here.  I might just take out the old sewing machine while I’m at it.

Oh and do forgive me if my blog posts get to be a bit sparse in the days leading up to Christmas…here’s some exciting things to  look out for:

1.  a contest (prior to Christmas) where you, my loyal blog readers, will have the deciding vote…(you won’t wanna miss this!)

2.  a full line up of pet portraits to be displayed after the big hoorah

3.  a special painting for a special person…(gosh…I can’t stand to keep secrets!)

4.  and a few drunken holiday tales

Let the festivities begin!

oh little blue bird…

December 18, 2008

Sometimes inspiration comes from dark places.   Little blue bird here (or “B” for short) has left a dying tree for a new life.  I couldn’t be more proud of her.
