where did the sun go?

March 15, 2009

This is south Georgia?  We spent yesterday freezing at the Savannah Market Bazaar. Not the best turn out for the event, but it’s always great to mingle with other artists, and see old friends.  I sold my very last Fresh Carrot yesterday to a lovely couple, and Cherry Babies, the only one ever printed in the Rockstar Red series, went home with a young girl about the age of 10.  She pondered over the purchase, and I’m sure spent some time negotiating with her mom over just why she needed a Foodie Print…but it’s so inspiring to see a youth interested  in art, and not some video game…the highlight of my day, no doubt!  In general, the Foodie Prints have been feeling the love as of late…if you’d like to get your hands on one, you better click-click-buy!  There’s only 3 Rockstar Reds left!

Returned home to find my little Sublime featured in this lovely treasury…now I’m really longing for a sunny beach, 83 degrees, and a margarita..

My brain is pure mush.  The onset of Spring, brings the tourists back full force, and  Nick and I will be setting up this weekend at the Savannah Market Bazaar. I’m excited to test the waters there again, but golly gee, these shows are a lot of work.  I’m currently printing, labeling, mounting, and bagging prints like mad.  (please dear printer do not run out of ink)   I have boxes and boxes of cards to package and tie little black bows around…table clothes need ironing and so many little details I’ve yet to account for.  It’s madness I tell you!  Some other fabulous artistas to look for this weekend…jewelry maven and roller derby queen, Kelly, and the multi-talented, always delightful Robin Lynne! Hope to see you there!

spring in savannah…

March 8, 2009

The azaleas are starting to bloom…the cold snap has passed…and St. Pat’s is fast approaching.  There’s nothing quite like Savannah in the spring.  I so look forward to painting outdoors with my three little apprentices!  Yesterday, I introduced the girls to Mr. Roy G. Biv, and we had a grand time painting rainbows with pots of gold at the end…and chatting about spring showers, leprachauns, and the like.  Here’s a sampling of their work…

Such little gems to work with!

Have a lovely Sunday!

What a co-ink-y-dink!  I have spent weeks working on this portrait, to wake up and realize that today, March 5th, it is complete.  Perfect timing, as today is Lee Anne (my little mermaid’s) birthday.  There’s a story here, and for those of you lucky enough to know Lee Anne, you know where it begins.  Lee Anne, my step-mother, has been living with Huntington’s Disease for the past 10 years.  Never heard of Huntington’s Disease?   CLICK HERE.

Lee Anne is such an inspiration to all who meet her.  She fights her battle with an outpouring of love, an endless supply of hope, and a smile so infectious it can light up a room…( it’s hard to miss her trademark ruby red lipstick!)  I can’t think of any better way to wish her a happy birthday, than to unveil her portrait, and to offer it up as a charitable print.  (That is, of course, if you approve Lee)  You can purchase your print by visiting my HeatherLYoung Etsy Shop and know that the proceeds will help find a cure for this debilitating disease.  Spread the word!
