Chicago Shower

October 21, 2009

Our summer road trip took us to Nick’s hometown of Chicago, where we were to be showered by my newly acquired Mom, Peg.

Peggy is a crafty gal, and her centerpiece was a real stunner!  I loved it so much, I couldn’t bare to disassemble it…instead, I opted to have my poor brother-in-law drive it all the way back to Savannah, so I could reuse it for the wedding.  (Imagine having those branches in your rear-view mirror for an 18 hour drive…I love you Chris!)

Each table was decked out with my beloved Gerber Daisies centered in delicate nests…

Even Aunt Mary got in on the DIY action, and presented us with a towel cake, stocked full of utensils, towels, and even some martini glasses..

We were treated to a fabulous meal at Luigi’s, and of course showered with many generous gifts.

A very special gift came from my Mom (of whom I would post a photo from this day, but the two of us couldn’t seem to keep our eyes open for any of the pictures)  Anyhoo, she passed down to me my Great-Grandmother Liz’s wedding band.  It was a teary exchange, and an honor to have her band as my “something old.”  Even more special was knowing that Grandmother knew about this gift, given just 3 weeks before she passed.  Mom, it means so much to me.

On a happy note, we received a glorious handmade quilt by Grandy…it’s a spectacular design, the fabrics of which were picked by Nick last Christmas.

She even went so far as to have one of our favorite photos printed on the back, along with her signature and the date.  We’ll cherish it always!

Oh and let’s not forget cousins Becky and Dani for making the matching throw pillow and pillow cases…love you girls!

Aunt Sue not only captured our shower in photos, she also gave us a handmade cross-stitch to treasure.

(P.S…Aunt Sue, love the new frame!)

Katie was in charge of making a rehearsal bouquet of all the ribbons from various packages…a fine job she did!

The whole day was splendid!  Can’t thank you enough Peg for all your hard work…we had fun…maybe a little too much fun…

As fast as it all came, it went…and Nick and I found ourselves on the way back to Savannah.

We had been so excited to get to Chicago that we nearly drove straight through, but on the way home, we took a night to reflect in the mountains, while staying at one of our favorite mid-way stops.  It’s a Hampton Inn in Caryville, TN.  What makes it so special?  Amongst a slew of other things…LLAMAS!

Yes, they live there, and I LOVE THEM!

Oh and then there’s the view…

The perfect way to top off a wonderful trip.

I’m Baaaaaaaaack!!!!!!

October 21, 2009

Whew!  The past month (or year really) has been quite the whirlwind.  In case you didn’t hear, Nick and I finally tied the knot on our 10 year anniversary this year!  It was a magical experience, and it still feels so surreal.  We had so many helping hands and creative minds that made this all come together, and I want to take a few blog entries to not only get you up to speed, but to thank all of those folks that contributed to our special day.

In studio news, things are starting to pick up for the Holidays.  Commissions are booking fast…so if you’d like a custom Pen & Ink or Pet Portrait this year, be sure to get your name on the list pronto!

I’m also working on some new Savannah Prints to debut in time for Christmas, so if you get bored with the wedding run-down, come back in a week or so, and I’m all business…promise!
