Remember those vintage inspired Rose & Peony watercolors swatches I was working on?  Here’s how all the paper goods came together for Aimee & Scott’s Big Day.  They had a clear vision for their event, pointed me in the right direction while also allowing for some creative freedom on my end, and were just all around wonderful people to work with.

We started with a custom pen & ink drawing of their wedding venue, the beautiful John S. Sell Chapel, for use on the exterior of their programs.

As a lovely gesture for their Veteran’s Day wedding, they paid tribute to a long list of veteran family members on the back cover.  We customized the flag swag with watercolor washes for a cohesive look.

Next up, we used one of the floral swags across the top of their menu.  The flowers were selected to match ones used for their centerpieces.  We also made coordinating food cards to identify items for their cocktail hour, though I completely forgot to photograph them! oops!

Keeping with the vintage feel, they named their tables after Hollywood classics.  We implemented the second floral swag on these table cards.

Guests were directed to their tables with coordinating escort cards.

Last, but not least, I designed favor tags utilizing the final peony swag.

Aside from working on my brother’s wedding, I think this was hands down my favorite wedding of 2012.  Thanks Aimee & Scott!

Whoa! Happy New Year!

January 1, 2013

How exactly did it get to be 2013?!  I’m still playing mad catch up from 2012.  (The year that will go down in my personal history as “the one that got away”) I hesitate to make it an official resolution, perhaps rather a goal, but I’m shooting to keep you all MUCH more up-to-date this year.  Here’s a peek at some of the Christmas commissions that couldn’t be posted until the New Year…many, many more to come!

2012 Vayda and Tom Tom Christmas Card

There’s just something about this house in Rhode Island that speaks to me.  I’ve never been there and it probably has something to do with the fact that it seems so isolated, perched over the beach.    It’s a family home that opened its doors to a wedding in the back yard (talk about a backdrop) and I was lucky enough to draw it as a wedding gift for the bride & groom.

Do all artist’s feel the urge to paint flowers?  Seems like I’m always thinking “one day I should paint that blossom.”  Thanks to sweet bride Aimee, I have finally get to nurture that side of me, even if only for a bit.

I have a feeling there will be more to come….

I’m sure there are those that will debate me on this, but Lafayette is hands down, my favorite of all the Savannah Squares.  I adore the patina on the fountain, the beautiful oaks that surround it, and of course the company it’s nestled between:  The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Hamilton-Turner Inn and the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home.

Happy Wedding Day Lauren & John! It was such a pleasure working with you and thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with one of my favorite squares, Lafayette.  I loved Lauren’s color scheme of Eggplant and Chocolate Brown and it paired nicely with the rustic kraft paper envelopes.

I absolutely LOVED drawing this house, so much charm!  While I’ve never met the owner in person, she’s been such a gem to work with, I feel like I’ve known her for years.
