Invaders

November 4, 2011

One sunny day, I was startled by the sound of Vayda about to jump through the sliding glass doors.  I went running to see what the commotion was all about…not one, not two, but THREE kid raccoons walking from one side of our yard to the other, taking their sweet time as if they owned the place.  I ran for my camera, and managed to capture a shot of one of the trespassers  on their way up the fence…

Since that day, I’ve yet to lay eyes on that crew again…the squirrels, however, are a different story.

My entire patio is littered with chewed up nuts.  What’s worse, if we (humans or dogs) attempt to sit out back and enjoy the nice fall weather, they take to launching bits and pieces of gnarled up nuts (with great accuracy) at our heads!

Hickory Tree

The trees are so dense with moss, it’s hard to even spot our attackers…and would you believe that I actually had one squirrel come knocking on the glass doors?!  Oh yes, he did! I kept hearing a thump thump thump, and there, on the other side of the glass was a bold (must be their leader) squirrel using a huge hickory nut he found in the yard to tap on my glass doors!

I know so very little about these creatures and their capabilities…I’m a little scared as to what comes next…

…one best summed up by a list:

1.  Prepped and dropped off notes and prints with various boutiques…(just in time for St. Pat’s)

2.  Enjoyed a long overdue lunch with my cousin Rebecca.

3.  Switched cars with Nick to save on gas mileage.

4.  Dined outside at Sol with Cima, another long overdue social.

5.  Got rear-ended by a Hummer (on the 2nd day driving Nick’s car…nice)

6.  Overindulged on  St. Pat’s with Aunt Pam, but still held onto my “Get of Jail Free Card” from Dad.

7.   Then “told off” the jerks at Citibank that handle my student loan.

8.  Completed my taxes.

9.  Continued work with 5 brides…details of which will be posted…one day

10.  Reshipped a print that got lost in the mail on the way to California…watch out postmaster, I might tell you off next…

I’m sure I’ve neglected something here, but suffice to say, I’m content to put this week behind me.

I’m Done with Cake…

January 18, 2011

no really, my history here is not good.  Let’s take a trip back in time to 2008…

Remember that Dangerous Cake recipe?

Or how about the time I cheated?

Prepare yourself for my latest kitchen disaster…The World’s Ugliest Cake…

The Ugliest Cake you have EVER seen

“Thanks for the cake, but did you drop it on the floor?” — text message from my husband

“It looks like a dalmatian!” — side note from my bestie

Personally, I think it looks like a squirrel danced all over it, but no matter how good it tasted, I’m leaving the baking to the bakers from now on.

On a bright note, I did succeed at making my first (and last) diaper cake for a baby shower last week.

Diaper Cake Centerpiece for baby shower

Ingredients:  50 newborn diapers, 5 wash cloths, 2 pairs of socks, and 3 rubber frogs

Diva-dog-attitude…

February 23, 2010

We have a real problem on our hands with Miss Vayda.  It all started a few months ago, when she decided that she would no longer eat or drink from her stainless steel bowls.  I guess after five years of the same dishes, she wanted a change of pace.

Since she never seems to have a problem cleaning our dinner plates, we presented her with a much more civilized ceramic plate and bowl.  The newness wore off, and  in about 2 days, she was starving herself again.

Nick’s brilliant idea was to buy the cheapest plastic bowls he could find…in a terrible, shiny-blue-ick color no less (I later found out he had the option to buy red) but by then the dog was eating from them…so how could I take them away?

These ugly bowls satisfied her  for about a month. Until last week when she decided that her outdoor water bowl had the tastiest water.  She begged and begged for us to let her outside.  We begged and begged for her to drink indoors.  The dog won.

Now I have one more piece of Bears memorabilia INSIDE my house.  She is without question, a Daddy’s girl.

Patience is key…

February 10, 2010

Did I mention I’ve been waiting?…waiting for my newly designed, expertly re-organized, new website to début!  It’s been such a process to rework it all…(and I really shouldn’t complain, because Nick’s done all the real work)…but I’m losing patience, and right now, that is key…see, I like things polished…but that takes some time to make sure all the last little details are in place…so excuse me if you will from this little blog for the next day or two…I ask that you, too, be patient…and know that when the new site debuts, there will be some pretty sweet deals to go along with it…I can barely contain my excitement!!!  Oh and have a lovely Wednesday.

honestly…

January 27, 2010

…I admit it…I got back from all the holiday travel, and slacked off.  I had some time to play with,  to paint things that have been on the list for a while…but I just couldn’t turn on the “self-motivate” switch…It wasn’t for a lack of ideas either…I’d pick up the pencil, and it just wouldn’t connect.  Perhaps it was a bad list to work with?  Whatever the cause, it was a  terrible little box to be in.  (Any of you other artists out there get what I’m sayin’ ?)

Thankfully, I’ve emerged from that box with more ideas than I can possibly get down on paper in the next year…I’m feverishly making lists of things not to forget, and eagerly waiting for the art supply store to open this morning…It’s such a vast contrast to the unmotivated me, and it’s like I can switch over night.  Nick says I’m either “all art” or “not.”  I’m not sure which “me” he fancies most, but he’s certainly living with the both of us whether he likes it or not.

I’d write more, but I currently have 4 lists in front of me, and this blog barely made the cut….gotta roll with this vibe while I’ve got it!
