One thing I love about Savannah are all the little hidden courtyards and carriage houses.  As if the houses on the street aren’t charming enough?!

Just before the start of the New Year, I was approached by Ash and Laurel of Ashley Hilton Jewellery to use one of my Oak Tree Drawings on a sample wedding band.  I’m always thrilled to work with other Etsy sellers, and I promptly agreed.  I could not have been happier with their translation of my drawing, except to find out that others wanted their very own Spanish Moss draped rings AND to hear that it was featured on Huff Post Weddings, May 1st!  What a way to start the month!

Their jewelry can be customized with your favorite tree, landscape, etc.  Pieces can be designed with  gem stones and a variety of metals, to suit any budget or style.  Here’s a link to the Savannah Live Oak band, if you’d like one for yourself!

Thanks for finding me Ash and Laurel!  It’s been a pleasure working with you from half way around the globe!

If you’re local to Savannah, you may have spotted them already at ShopScad, The Tea Room, or La Paperie, but now you can also get your Savannah Notes online via The Ink Lab.  I’ve mixed up the series a bit and revamped the packaging to include an eco-friendly kraft paper box.  Each box includes 8 notes featuring my pen & ink drawings of Madison Square, Lafayette Square, Chippewa Square and the iconic Forsyth Park Fountain.  Get yours here!

Baby’s First Mural!

April 6, 2013

I’ve been absent, but with good reason!  We are expecting a little fella late summer, so life has taken on a new urgency if you will.  So many projects to tackle before his arrival.

Babys First Mural

One of which was finally updating my Dutch Island mural from many years ago.  (see here to refresh your memory.)  Naughty clients decided to remodel, trim down the mural a bit from one side and *gasp* tear a hole in the wall to put in double doors!  (it’s okay Meghan and Bill, I still love you!)

Beveled edges are so tricky!  Matching paint from 8 years ago, even trickier, but I think I successfully brought their waterfall back to life.

Mural Painted Doors

Oh and they had one more addition arrive in those 8 years, Sophie.  It wouldn’t be fair to leave her out of the mural…

Here’s a better shot at how she fits into the mix…

Here’s a glimpse at the right side.  I added some embellishments to beef up the silhouette since a few feet had been trimmed on that side of the mural.  Sorry for the split shots, it’s impossible to be a shot of the full mural (roughly 20 feet wide)

Happy Spring y’all!

I’m sure there are those that will debate me on this, but Lafayette is hands down, my favorite of all the Savannah Squares.  I adore the patina on the fountain, the beautiful oaks that surround it, and of course the company it’s nestled between:  The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Hamilton-Turner Inn and the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home.

Happy Wedding Day Lauren & John! It was such a pleasure working with you and thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with one of my favorite squares, Lafayette.  I loved Lauren’s color scheme of Eggplant and Chocolate Brown and it paired nicely with the rustic kraft paper envelopes.

Tasked with cleaning out from under the bed today, I happened upon a relic from my past.  I had to pause for a moment when I saw the date….

SCAD Rising Star Certificate of Comletion Heather L. Young

strange, no?

Rising Star Program Savannah College of Art and Design

The summer of 1998 was probably one of the best summers of my life.  I was in between my junior and senior years of high school (dating myself here, I know) I had been accepted into the Rising Star Program at SCAD, and had managed to earn 2 scholarships to help afford it.  I had my first real taste of college life, the career I had chosen, and the freedom of living on my own that summer.

I remember the feeling I had on this 14th day, 14 years later.  I felt driven, inspired, and excited for the possibilities of the future…and a little sad I that I would have to return for one more year of high school before coming back to SCAD.

I’m so happy to now offer Tree Themed Place Cards! Choose from my moss draped Live Oak Trees, Magnolias, or even Weeping Willows!
