Custom Art for Christmas

October 18, 2010

If you’ve been pondering that portrait of Fido or a sketch of your childhood home, now is the time to get on the list.  My schedule fills fast this time of year, and I’ve got some serious holiday travel lined up.  Only 68 days left until Christmas! Eeeeeek!

No house is too big or too small and I’m a sucker for just about any furry baby!  All I need are some awesome photos to work from, and a little bit of time.  I can also make archival prints of the original work  so that other friends and family members can have a little memento too!

Most importantly, I want to remind you all to consider buying handmade this year and supporting your local art community.  Aside from bringing home the most unique gifts, you’ll also be keeping people like myself from having to get a “real” job…(I hear there’s not many of those anyway)…so keep it quirky, and  buy handmade!

Email heather@flyoungstudio.com or click on my shopping links to the right to get started.  Hugs~

Avery Complete!

Special thanks to Lindsay for such an awesome project!  It’s not too often that I get asked to paint “people portraits” in my Acrylic & Oil Wash technique…so this was a real treat.  You may have seen the work in progress here.

P.S. want a people portrait?  I’d be happy to whip one up for ya…just email heather@flyoungstudio.com

Sometimes a personal connection with a subject makes it incredibly hard to capture in a truly representational form.  My brain tells me “I know what that cat looks like”…my brush listens to my brain instead of trusting my eyes, and the next thing you know,  you don’t even recognize the work in front of you. Thankfully, I took this one slow…adding a wash here, a wash there…I knew at some point it would speak to me, and it did.

and too darn cute!  I might just have to kidnap these pups one day.  (well, I might pass on Yoji since he’s on a homemade vegan diet…I can’t even cook that good for myself)

K-9 Officer Bull

January 15, 2010

I was sooooo excited to take on this commission.  Why?  Because it comes from a long-lost friend (we haven’t seen or heard of each other in say…15 years?!?)  who also happens to be marrying a K-9 Cop!  Jill gave me great freedom with this piece, and when I found the green patterned paper, I knew exactly how I wanted it all to play out…Thanks Jill!  It was tons of fun to work on this project, and even better to reconnect with you!
