a worthwhile cause

A few weeks back I was contacted by Ashley of The Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy. I had never heard of Ferst, but it’s an organization well worth supporting.  The Ferst Foundation strives to provide children with one book every month from pre-school until age 5.  It’s an especially important project in our community when you figure only 28% of Georgia 4th graders read at or above proficiency, and Georgia has the nations third highest high school drop out rate.  Shocking right?  Anyhoo…Ashley will be hosting an online auction this fall to benefit this wonderful project and I hope you all will take a moment to check out her new blog. She has some fabulous items up for auction, including a custom pet portrait by none other than yours truly.  I hope all you blog lovin’ artsy folk will spread the word!  Best ~ h

We’re half-way through Breast Cancer Awareness month, and our low country weather is beyond perfect for a trip down to Tybee.  While you’re there, be sure to stop by Gallery by the Sea and Seaside Sisters, to bid on some fabulous artwork for a good cause.  Here’s the second version of “These Boots,” and it too, is up for auction!  (Click here to see the first version)
