this and that…

January 6, 2009

I feel so discombobulated.  Perhaps I took too long of a vacation.  Anyhoo, I haven’t squandered up much new material for this little blog, and I haven’t deciphered my doodles for a worthy post yet.  So this is what you get…a peek at how my brain works.  (If you would have rather seen some fluffy Vayda post, I do apologize)

I am meticulous, at times quite indecisive, and a little OCD about the process…(color theory, that is)

Still working on Vayda’s card for 08…I’ve become totally OCD about color comps…and just can’t seem to make up my mind.  I’ll probably paint enough to have Christmas cards for the next 10 years!

thanks a million…

February 1, 2008

to all you wonderful folks who took the time to visit my site and spread the word! I capped off the month with 1027 visitors and nearly 15,000 hits to the site! This is some good momentum for 2008, and I hope I can keep you coming back for more…

While I was waiting for the final tally last night…I begrudgingly attended to some filing work in the studio…(about 6 month worth – YUCK!)…but in the sorting process, I came across the following color comps…I am absolutely neurotic about my color choices…so here’s a good example of just how my brain works…(not that you really care…but if you know me…this might explain a few things…lol!)

P.S. The top row features a painting inspired by my Granny J…I attempted to paint it once…and it didn’t turn out, but I think I will approach it again, as it goes nicely with “The World is Her Oyster”

works in progress…

January 29, 2008

I’ve been locked in my studio for the past several days…2 paintings, 3 pen & inks, and a zillion postcard promotional mailers to get in and out the door…needless to say, my eggs are in a few too many baskets…but special thanks to Nick for making me a new playlist for my ipod…(I still don’t know how to use that thing…but thankfully he knows my taste in music)  here’s the update on Tori’s portrait…I’m waiting for it to “speak” to me…until then, I’m not touching it for fear I might ruin it…thoughts?

color comps…

Still working on the first real “people painting” in some time…notice how I couldn’t escape the use of food imagery…Theme: The World is Her Oyster…

Anywho…I’m a color comp freak, and I study color combinations like they are a science…I’m just getting started on some studies…see below…and then there’s the matter of composition…

Keep in mind…these are VERY rough sketches…and no I do not intend to have her look like an alien…
