I always get excited to draw an old family home.  This one’s located on Savannah’s East Side.  Mini-prints were made for the entire family and given as little gifts over the holidays.  A nice way to remember your youth, no?

Even though we moved a lot during my childhood, I still feel a connection to each of the places we occupied.  Our time there may have been short-lived, but we worked hard to make each house a home.

A few weeks ago, my brother took a trip to Richmond, VA, and snapped this pic of our old place.  Oh the memories it uprooted!  I’ve often pondered sketching all of our old homes (I’ve had several clients do this, and it makes for quite the collection), but finding all those old photos from the pre-digital camera days, would be quite the challenge.

I LOVE Wrapping Presents

December 22, 2010

…perhaps my favorite of all the Christmas traditions.

I’m a sucker for paper rosettes and love any excuse to glue rhinestones and wayward buttons to things.

It’s a rather organic process, though I do like to keep a theme.    This year, I went for silver and gold with icy blue and the occasional pop of red.  I pulled every scrap bin out of my studio, and just started building from what I had on hand… (I always save lil remnants of ribbon!)… an eclectic mix of luxurious Italian handmade papers, basic kraft, and even a roll I found at the dollar store…(you’d be surprised at the paper you can find at the dollar store, just be aware that it’s usually thin and a little harder to work with)…now if I just had a tree to put them under…

I’m working on a series of Isle of Hope sketches, and very thrilled to have the new Pink Door Gift Boutique in Norwood Market carrying the prints.  If you haven’t checked them out, they have an eclectic mix of gifts, and having just opened a week ago, I’m sure there’s much more to come.  Thanks Christy and Teresa for your continued support of my work!

I love to spend my mornings perusing around etsy. It’s a great way to get inspired, and a fabulous community to be a part of.  It’s even better to wake up and find your work has been included in a treasury.  Special thanks to Michelle of Flamingaux for including my “I’ll Take Three, Martini” print in her collection.
