Inspiration

March 8, 2011

I recently spent some time out at my childhood home.   My great-aunt’s property, it has housed nearly every one of my mother’s siblings at some point or another.   I spent the first 8 years of my life in that house and nearly ever summer there after.

Perhaps this wallpaper mural in the foyer (circa 1978) has something to do with my Live Oak fascination?

The camellias in bloom and the morning fog off the Vernon River welcomed me home.

Enchanting, no?

I love this time of year!  I get to work in all my favorite mediums, reconnect with old clients, and meet lots of new ones.  Very content with the way this house turned out, and happy I can show it to you since the gift has already been given…

Custom Art for Christmas

October 18, 2010

If you’ve been pondering that portrait of Fido or a sketch of your childhood home, now is the time to get on the list.  My schedule fills fast this time of year, and I’ve got some serious holiday travel lined up.  Only 68 days left until Christmas! Eeeeeek!

No house is too big or too small and I’m a sucker for just about any furry baby!  All I need are some awesome photos to work from, and a little bit of time.  I can also make archival prints of the original work  so that other friends and family members can have a little memento too!

Most importantly, I want to remind you all to consider buying handmade this year and supporting your local art community.  Aside from bringing home the most unique gifts, you’ll also be keeping people like myself from having to get a “real” job…(I hear there’s not many of those anyway)…so keep it quirky, and  buy handmade!

Email heather@flyoungstudio.com or click on my shopping links to the right to get started.  Hugs~

…it’s what keeps me interested in pen & ink work.  After all, it’s the little things that make a house a home, right?

It’s not too often I get asked to do a pencil sketch vs. a pen & ink. However, the owner of this home, had two other pencil sketches of previous residences, and wanted to keep this one with the same feel.  It turned out lovely, and even reproduced well on Crane Stationery.  Don’t forget, if you’ve had an ink done by me in the past, you can now have your drawing reproduced on stunning Crane Stationery by my friends at Turtle Creek!

Such a thoughtful gift for their parents.  Congrats Newlyweds, and super thanks for giving me such a unique house to draw!
