There’s just something about this house in Rhode Island that speaks to me.  I’ve never been there and it probably has something to do with the fact that it seems so isolated, perched over the beach.    It’s a family home that opened its doors to a wedding in the back yard (talk about a backdrop) and I was lucky enough to draw it as a wedding gift for the bride & groom.

Meet Jane Sloss,  architect and watercolor painter from the great Windy City.  (catching the similarities yet? with exception that I’m  just an architecture enthusiast…)  Jane stumbled upon my work a month or so ago, and was kind enough to show me a little love on her blog, A Good Day’s Work.

I’m so glad she found me, as I can’t stop drooling over her Chicago land and city-scapes.

I especially love her muted color palette.  It carries the mood of Chicago, but in a good way.

Jane finds the calm in what is typically a hustle and bustle, fury of activity, and it’s quite refreshing.

To see more of her work, including lovely and  quite affordable wedding invitations, visit her Etsy Shop.

I’ve also added her to my blog roll so you can check in on her work, once in a while….many thanks Jane!

Chippewa Square, Savannah

I’m pretty sure I’ve officially visited all of Savannah’s Squares by now…and can truthfully say that  Chippewa Square, with its monument to General Oglethorpe,  is  one of the finest in Savannah…

Special thanks to Lindsay for such an awesome project!  It’s not too often that I get asked to paint “people portraits” in my Acrylic & Oil Wash technique…so this was a real treat.  You may have seen the work in progress here.

K-9 Officer Bull

January 15, 2010

I was sooooo excited to take on this commission.  Why?  Because it comes from a long-lost friend (we haven’t seen or heard of each other in say…15 years?!?)  who also happens to be marrying a K-9 Cop!  Jill gave me great freedom with this piece, and when I found the green patterned paper, I knew exactly how I wanted it all to play out…Thanks Jill!  It was tons of fun to work on this project, and even better to reconnect with you!
