the madness of it all…

April 17, 2009

Spring always seems to be a busy time of year…but this year takes the cake (quite literally when you think about it)…I mean, the wedding is less than 6 months away…(I actually just picked out the cake yesterday)  The house hunt is in full force, and this DIY chick, just keeps pickin’ up projects.  All good, fun things of course.  However, it has limited my time to keep the rest of the world updated on the latest FLYoung goodness…and for that, I am terribly sorry!  The good news is, Flat Heather has returned from Australia, and after she collects her thoughts for a bit, she’ll be ready to share stories.

While I’m caught in blog limbo, take a moment to visit my friend AJ’s shop.  She refuses to call herself an artist, but her pieces are without question works of art.  Once I start picking out honeymoon attire, I’ll have to coordinate with a few items for her shop.

She has an eye for presentation, and is quite possibly one of the friendliest people you will find on Etsy.  A true gem if you will.  Oh and I just noticed she’s opened a second store, DandyDwelling. Vintage goodness for your home!  All the modern accessories in the world can’t tell a story like these fancy old finds.  Wouldn’t you just love to have these salt & pepper shakers? Pea-Pie-Precious!

Everybody likes to harp on the negative…the economy…the slower sales…the yata yata yata, and I’m not going to lie, I’ve experienced a little lull just like the rest of you folks out there.  I’ve had to work a lot harder to rope in commissions and reach a broader market, but in the midst of all this negativity, there is something happening in the arts that really gives me hope.

I’ve seen artists across the board working very hard to support and promote each others work.  I’ve seen locals pulling together markets, art shows, and festivals, on shoestring budgets just to get the word out…I’ve seen galleries on the verge of closing shop, stay afloat by artists willing to volunteer their time.  I’ve seen more artists sharing their blog forums to promote other artists work.  It’s so wonderful to ride out the storm with such a great support system of like-minded people.  I can’t thank you all enough!

Oh and speaking of sharing the love…PaperMichelle was kind enough to feature me on her bloggity blog…CLICK! As did  AJ all the way in Canada! ..CLICK! I’ve added both these gals to the blog list, so be sure to see what they’re up to from time to time.

In other happy news…I received my Glass Diamonds Print from the ever so talented Victoria Bennett Beyer today!!!  It’s even more gorgeous in real life, I’ll be sure to post more on this little gem when I get her all framed and happy.  AND…(saving the best for last you know…)  My new printer is here, and fired up!  New prints and a new Etsy store are in the works…It’s like Christmas!

Some days I don’t know where the hours go?  This time of year seems to move so fast!  Just a quick reminder that today is the last day to take advantage of the SALE at The Produce Stand.  So be sure to EAT YOUR GREENS! In other exciting etsy news, I’d like to introduce you to Coastal Gems. My Granny…(the one I so affectionately named this painting after), and her dear friend Teena have opened shop on Etsy!  They’re selling some fabulous jewels, ornaments, and adornments inspired by the sea, and I hope you’ll all take a moment to show their shop some love.

there were sketches.  Lots of sketches.  Rearranging, dissecting, grouping, collecting, and visualizing of sketches.  It’s indecisiveness in it’s most vicious form, but the foundation of any project lies in a “simple” pencil sketch.

Don’t forget to EAT YOUR GREENS at my super fantastic online sale. (Which ends 10-26)

Oh and I had the pleasure of meeting two great Savannah Etsy Sellers yesterday, and one stellar organizer extraordinaire…(Miriam that’s you)…When you’ve finished shopping the Produce Stand, take a moment to check out Kathryn’s stellar jewelry, and Jeri’s whimisical paper mache.

June 25, 2008

most days I hate it…bills bills bills…you know, when you’re a kid, that trip to the mailbox is magical…especially around your birthday. When you’re a kid, all the mail you ever get is good…

For some people…(Dad I know you’re one of them)…checking the mail on a daily basis is a must. I, on the other hand, refuse to check the mail unless I’m pretty darn sure there will be a check, a present, a magazine, or something to stave off the depression of opening up bills.

Today was a doubly lucky day! Not only did I get my hands on a much needed present from my bestie…

(ok…so most days I wear my ratty-tatty flip flops, but for the occasional day when I need to rock those sassy heels, this is a MUST)

I also received my new birdie earrings from local artist Robin Lynne!

(Robin, I’m terribly sorry my photo skills do them no justice)

ps. I hope you’ll take a minute to visit Robin’s site…she is a super talented gem of a gal, with interests in photography, jewelry, and soap making!
