Finally had the opportunity to start sketching  Ford Plantation Live Oaks!  I could spend a lifetime drawing inspiration from this incredible property.

Gateway Oak (or so I’ve named it)

Prints available in Natural, Moss Green, and Icy Blue

A few months back, I showed my work at the Hunter Spouses Club luncheon.  The new Live Oak series was well received…save one small request…”can you draw one of ours?”

This one certainly takes the cake for the most moss.  I should have it available for purchase sometime next week.  Until then, feel free to check out the rest of my forest over at theinklab.etsy.com.

I could probably draw a hundred of their oaks, but I’m sure a series of 3 or 4 is a good start…

According to Mr. Waters, a Spanish Conquistador is buried in this tree…

He also suggested a hurricane from 1896 may have blown it over, along with another tree in the opposite direction.

Gives me flashbacks (Halloween’s on the brain) to The Tree of the Dead from Sleepy Hollow.

The following I’ll refer to as Triplet Oak, three trunks all seemingly from the same root system.  Oddities I’ve only found here.

I can’t wait to start sketching!  Special thanks to Mr. Waters for a moment of his time, Kerri and Erika for getting me through the gates, and Tom at the front gate for mapping out his favorites.  Enchanting.

I’m so excited to finally have the Live Oak Tree Prints for sale. They’re available in three different treatments, Icy Blue and Moss Green hand watercolored prints, and archival black prints on Natural paper.  All are hand-signed, and though they are listed at 5×7 inches, I can certainly print 8×10’s or even 11×14’s should you fancy a larger size.

I welcome your comments, and I’m still tree huntin’ so if you know of a spectacular oak, do tell!

Three new hand-watercolored Savannah Squares are up for sale in The Ink Lab. Chippewa, Orleans, and Whitefield.  The mini-prints have yet to be listed, but if you’d like one just let me know…much more to come!

Coffee Bluff Live Oak

September 6, 2010

Spending Labor Day applying various washes of color to my latest live oak sketches.  All these experiments, but something tells me, I’ll come back to classic black & white…

Whitefield is such a beautiful square, and one that I have neglected for a long time.  Here’s the B&W…

and the hand-watercolored version…

A lovely (and quite popular) place to get married in Savannah.

Both versions will be available for purchase in The Ink Lab shortly…(and by shortly, I mean, whenever I get tired of drawing and don’t mind sitting in front of the computer like a robot for a few hours…)
