a retreat of sorts…

February 23, 2008

So in my constant quest for the thing called “balance,” I’m off to the river for some R&R…(I say that, but she’ll probably put me to work…my granny that is…but it is her birthday, so if she puts me to work, I can’t really say “no”) Either way, my cell phone doesn’t work there, and that’s a good thing…Vayda can run free and get all the rotten dog energy out of her…also, not a bad thing. And there’s just something about being out in the country…the sounds, the smells, the stars at night…a rhythm that might…just might…lend itself to some balance.

Anywho, if you’ve come to this blog to see some form of art and design…I’ll get to the point…the image below is a working logo for someone on “the noble pursuit of words”…still tossing around some ideas, but I like the simple symbolism here…

A few weeks ago my father paid a visit, and something he said just stuck with me…”you’ve got to have balance”…this of course, was after he heard the debate Nick and I had been having over the house. According to Nick…(and he is absolutely right…) I get on a train of thought, or all focused on an art project and my tunnel vision allows me to neglect things like…keeping up the house…or spending time with my friends…etc.

So I’ve been on this quest for balance…last week I had art camp with Bekah and killed two birds with one stone…art for fun and not for work, and spending time with a friend who I hadn’t seen since before Christmas…(this said, she lives less than a mile away from me…)

I’ve scheduled a night out with Cima…haven’t had one of those in an eternity…and this weekend is Granny’s birthday…so what better excuse to escape to the River for a few days…

But back to balance…how then do I fit in 5 pen & inks…design a mural for a nursery…2 logo designs…and launch my new product?…(which by the way, is a new line of canvas prints of my work…22 total…and I’m soooo excited about it hitting the market, I can’t sleep at night)…seems to me, it would make more sense to lock myself in my studio and chip away at this list before I ventured out to the River for family time…or over to Bekah’s for art camp. Balance Balance Balance.

Spoke with my father again last night, and told him about this quest of mine…and he replied…”after all, you are a virgo”…does that mean I’m doomed to never find this thing called balance? I’m open to suggestions…and while you’re pondering some brilliant advice…(and I’m all ears)…here’s an updated Akita Rescue logo…

Even though it would be a little more work…I think this image would be killer as a block print…(the same process as the Vayda-Valentine…)

a week of hearts…

Some time ago a person so very generous of her time, Dr. Rachel Peeples, asked for some logo design help. While logos, are not something I specialize in (nor really care to)…I am capable of doing them…if they suit me…as in…I need to have some motivation, and a more illustrative approach to them…if you’re looking for a “monogram” type logo, I’m not your girl…does that make sense? Anywho…I’ve been pondering the “visual” for Heart of Dixie Akita Rescue for sometime. hmmm…Heart…Dixie (as in Magnolia or Antebellum home)…Akita…that’s a lot of “visual” to pack into one logo. So I roughed out some sketches, and landed on this idea…a very simplistic approach I might add…

Of course I submitted roughly 8 designs for Dr. Peeples to ponder…and she may very well point me in a different direction all together…but I like the simplicity here…more so…it offers another clue as to tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day post…think about it…

it must be genetic…

October 21, 2007

I think I’m slowly turning into my father…used to be my internal clock had me up pronto at 7:30am…yet for the past 5 days, I’ve been up (on average) at 6am.  Sad thing is, I’m still going to bed at the same time…roughly midnight.  Yep, it must be genetic.  Also seems, I can rest my head on the couch, slip into a complete dream state, and drool on the pillow…(all within 20 minutes…)   The good news about all this, is the tranquility this time of day provides.  It allows my creativity to flourish, and I’ve finally made some progress on “logo madness.”  Images to follow shortly…suffice to say, it’s all been hammered out, just playing around with colors for the moment.

Let’s see if Dad aka Big Al, actually reads my blog…
