Gone Shrimpin’

September 24, 2010

Granny and I finally found some time to put the boat in the water.  Rather than venture out to our favorite haunt, Granny taught me to cast for shrimp.  (my kinda fishin’)

A few things about Saundra Kay…

Granny Saundra Kay Throwing Cast Net for Shrimp

Don’t let her 4’11” frame fool you, she could tackle Goliath.

She has, in fact, been known to wrestle alligators (to protect her grandkids and precious dogs of course)

Makes the best damn cherry pie you have EVER tasted.

Happy Father’s Day

June 20, 2010

to the best Dad in the world!  if you’ve met him, you know it’s true…the brosef and I,  and all the folks that so lovingly refer to him as “Big Al” are pretty darn lucky.  Thanks Dad, for being you!

Funny…turns out more mystery surrounds this place than I had once imagined.  Granny and I jump ship (skiff really), and parade around the white sandy beaches for washed up conch shells…(the biggest you’ve ever seen)…We feel like we’ve been marooned on the place, as there has never been another soul in sight.  Needless to say, even my 29-year-old imagination runs wild here.  So imagine my utter delight in finding out this place was in many ways a small bit of Eden? Just so happens The New York Zoological Society utilizes this remote island to give endangered species from across the world a place to grow and thrive…Grevy’s Zebras and ring-tailed lemurs to name a few.  Sadly, the public is only allowed to access the island’s beaches…but should we come eye to eye with a zebra in the future, we’ll know it’s no mirage.
