I can’t begin to tell you how fortunate we are to have Diana photographing Elliot!  He was just 7 days old when these photos were taken and not the most cooperative of subjects.  Somehow Diana managed to capture his little parts, photos we will treasure for a lifetime.  Hard to believe he’s pushing 3 months old now!

Thanks Diana!  Oh and if you want her to snap some holiday pics for you, you better book quick!  She’s a busy bee around this town!

I was so excited to see this website launch!  Nick worked like mad to pull it together, and it turned out quite lovely (not that I’m biased or anything)…crisp, clean, and the perfect backdrop for Matthew’s stunning photographs. Check it…

Self Portrait #7

June 3, 2010

if I were a material girl…a few of my favorite things.

Self Portrait No. 7 - Material Girl

1.  Gap jeans – my favorite pair.

2.  Great-Grandmother’s wedding band.  Oh how we miss her!

3.  Scarves.  This one, hand-painted in Belgium, a gift from some old friends.

4.  Flip-flops (my feet hate socks!)

5.  My Blushing Mona Lisa, a canvas print by dear friend Dana Jo.

6.  Paint brushes.  I don’t think I’ve ever thrown one out.  Too much story in them.

7.  Painting by Lee Anne. She offers the best kind of inspiration.

8.  Our wedding rings. (photo by Jade McCully)

9.  Hand-written recipe cards.

Secret Valentine #2

February 18, 2010

It’s always fun to paint something that you would fancy in your own home.  It’s even more fun to paint it, knowing that it’s a special Valentine’s Day surprise.  And, as if it could possibly get any better, I got to paint it for the oh so talented Jade McCully. Trust me, her photos will be much better than my sneak peek below…but you get the idea…

Birch trees on a crisp yellow-green.  Loves it!

Many Thanks

One of the most enjoyable things about pulling this Savannah Wedding all together was getting to meet and work with other local artists…(and a few that aren’t so local)…

First, I’d like to thank the lovely Elissa Frankino for not only designing our rings, but allowing us to be a part of the process.  It was so much fun to see her studio, and make friends with her and her husband…Elissa, I’ll be happy to show you a painting trick or two, if I can just come play in your studio for day 🙂

Special thanks to Merritt of Appearances Salon for her hair magic!

One of the most meaningful gifts came from Nick’s Aunt Phyllis…Phyllis makes custom wedding gowns and accessories out of Chicago, and she was kind enough to create the perfect veil for me!  She even used the extra beads from my dress to adorn it.

Fabulous esthetician and girlfriend to my baby brosef, Elizabeth Schrom, was kind enough to do my makeup…(and that of most my girls)…she’s a true gem!

AJ of Nigh Bluey worked with me to create some beautiful custom Swarovski crystal earrings for my girls!  She was even so kind as to throw in a pair for me, that worked perfect with my dress.  AJ, my girls loved them more than you can imagine! I have a feeling we’ll be working on matching necklaces soon!

Some other folks that made this day spectacular:

Peacock’s on 37th – They saw my vision for the flowers, and far exceeded my expectations where they could have shown me the door.

The Gingerbread House – Made finding the perfect dress all too easy!

Baker’s Pride – the most yummy cake around, and the design fit right in…love love love our cake!

All About You DJ’s – your professionalism sets you apart from the rest!

Quantum Inc. – Employs over 175 adults with disabilities, and makes a slew of personalized products.  Thanks for the matchbooks and cocktail napkins!

Oglethorpe Trolley Tours – Thanks for getting all our guests back safe and sound!

Rev. John Haney – Your ceremony was absolutely beautiful!  We’ve heard nothing but raves!  Hope to see you real soon.

Angie & the entire team at the Savannah Yacht Club – Can’t thank you enough for your help!  The food was amazing, everyone had a wonderful time!

And last, but certainly not least, thanks to Jade McCully for capturing our special day.  It was a dream to have her photograph our wedding and it’s been so much fun getting to know her…for a look at her gorgeous photos form our day, CLICK!

Of course none of this would have happened were it not for our incredibly generous friends and family.  We love you all bunches!

Now it’s time to get back to work!

Take a Closer Look…

March 23, 2009

at the work of Victoria Bennett Beyer.

I’ve been meaning to write this post ever since I got my hands on Vickie’s fabulous Glass Diamonds print.  That print had stared at me for months…something, which on the surface seems so simple,  but upon a closer take reveals so many little intricate details, that’s what Vickie’s world is all about.  She captures the things we would overlook, and gives a new perspective to them.

I’m still hunting the perfect spot…but I couldn’t resist this subtly detailed frame when I saw it…perfect!

Ice  – 8×12

Branching Out No. 1 – “8×12”

Branching Out No. 4 – 8″x12″ (This one is my new fav)

Victoria has two etsy shops, one a Mother-Daughter shop she shares with her equally artistic Mom, Milemarker.etsy.com, and she just launched a store exclusively for her paintings, Milemarker2. Oh and if you want the very latest on Vickie’s work…check out her blog…which is conveniently located on my Friends list (right hand column of this blog).

To sum things up, I am called back to a quote by the late great Georiga O’keeffe —“Nobody sees a flower – really – it is so small it takes time – we haven’t time – and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes time”
Today, I will take time.  (thanks for the reminder Vickie.)

I am one lucky bride-to-be!  Mom and I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Jade McCully yesterday.  I won’t lie, I have been drooling over her wedding photography for months now.  Aside from being a fellow SCAD grad, she has a modern and creative take on wedding photos…an “artist’s artist” if you will…She is a true gem and the kind of person I would allow total creative freedom to without so much as a drop of worry.  She feels like an old friend, and I’m sure her personality will make my introverted groom a little more comfortable on one of the most nerve-wracking days of his life.  Anyhoo…here’s a sampling of her work…but do check out her website, www.jademccullyphotography.com.

Thank you Jade for a swell lunch and all the resources…I soooooo cannot wait to work with you!  (oh and thank you too Mom !-)

good things…

February 4, 2009

Everybody likes to harp on the negative…the economy…the slower sales…the yata yata yata, and I’m not going to lie, I’ve experienced a little lull just like the rest of you folks out there.  I’ve had to work a lot harder to rope in commissions and reach a broader market, but in the midst of all this negativity, there is something happening in the arts that really gives me hope.

I’ve seen artists across the board working very hard to support and promote each others work.  I’ve seen locals pulling together markets, art shows, and festivals, on shoestring budgets just to get the word out…I’ve seen galleries on the verge of closing shop, stay afloat by artists willing to volunteer their time.  I’ve seen more artists sharing their blog forums to promote other artists work.  It’s so wonderful to ride out the storm with such a great support system of like-minded people.  I can’t thank you all enough!

Oh and speaking of sharing the love…PaperMichelle was kind enough to feature me on her bloggity blog…CLICK! As did  AJ all the way in Canada! ..CLICK! I’ve added both these gals to the blog list, so be sure to see what they’re up to from time to time.

In other happy news…I received my Glass Diamonds Print from the ever so talented Victoria Bennett Beyer today!!!  It’s even more gorgeous in real life, I’ll be sure to post more on this little gem when I get her all framed and happy.  AND…(saving the best for last you know…)  My new printer is here, and fired up!  New prints and a new Etsy store are in the works…It’s like Christmas!
