I’m a collector of sorts.  Little odds and ends that might inspire are good to have around.  My three little apprentice girls presented me with quite the gem this weekend.

Isn’t it amazing?  I love that it is wearable art, but I must say Nick and I are tempted to frame it.  This, by the way, is only a small detail of the scarf, which measures nearly 6 feet in length.

I love the variety, the patterns, the uniqueness of each one.  I rarely wear them, but I can’t help myself from picking them up here and there.  Here’s the collection…

My favorites are vintage Vera and Liberty of London prints.  I also draw heavily from the ones with sentimental value.  And there you have it…a little eye candy for your Monday morning blues.

Prior to my trip, I had purchased two skeins of yarn and a jumbo sized crochet hook.  The initial results were discouraging to say the least…out of practice, I suppose…and a little uninspired.  That is until Christmas day, when Reima presented me with a gloriously crocheted scarf of interesting pattern. (thanks Rei)

Delighted with my new gem, I was determined to replicate the intricate design.  You all know, I can’t follow a pattern to save my life, but after careful dissection, and hours of finger whittling work, I reign victorious!

Sadly, my yarn hails from a thicker variety, which may only be appropriate for two days out of the year in south Georgia.

80 degrees and i need a scarf

What would Christmas be without a little crafty fun time?  I don’t care if you could fry an egg on the sidewalk right now, I’m making a scarf…or two…or three…we’ll just see how motivated I get around here.  I might just take out the old sewing machine while I’m at it.

Oh and do forgive me if my blog posts get to be a bit sparse in the days leading up to Christmas…here’s some exciting things to  look out for:

1.  a contest (prior to Christmas) where you, my loyal blog readers, will have the deciding vote…(you won’t wanna miss this!)

2.  a full line up of pet portraits to be displayed after the big hoorah

3.  a special painting for a special person…(gosh…I can’t stand to keep secrets!)

4.  and a few drunken holiday tales

Let the festivities begin!

clownin’ around…

September 14, 2008

why?  Because I’m in limbo on too many projects…So I pulled out one of my favorite sketchbooks from college and looked for a little nostalgia…

I’m actually glad I opened this old book today…the fabric in the background above is from an old scarf / bandanna that I used to wear in my super-short pixie hair cut days

…a few weeks ago, I spent a good hour or so looking for that bandanna…go figure I used it for art…(some 5 -6 years ago)…(ps…that’s my old high school buddy Meghan…)  Nothing like a trip down memory lane!
