waiting…

September 28, 2008

some days are filled with it.  Thankfully, this day, I had my trusty sketchbook.

You know I’m bored when I resort to drawing the negative space of fake foliage.

She too, felt my pain.

clownin’ around…

September 14, 2008

why?  Because I’m in limbo on too many projects…So I pulled out one of my favorite sketchbooks from college and looked for a little nostalgia…

I’m actually glad I opened this old book today…the fabric in the background above is from an old scarf / bandanna that I used to wear in my super-short pixie hair cut days

…a few weeks ago, I spent a good hour or so looking for that bandanna…go figure I used it for art…(some 5 -6 years ago)…(ps…that’s my old high school buddy Meghan…)  Nothing like a trip down memory lane!

so many ideas…

I just don’t know where to begin!  There are some exciting things going on around here…and thankfully, I took the time to craft a new sketchbook prior to our Chicago trip.

There’s just something inspiring about a “pretty sketchbook”…even if they take a little extra time to put together, it’s time well spent.  I found the fabric for a $1 per yard at Wally-World a few years back.  I’ve been very selective as to how my few yards are spent.  In hindsight, I wish I’d bought more of this sweet pattern.

new prints…new shop ideas…oh and I got a taste of my next mural project yesterday afternoon…good things I tell you!

more than i expected…

to chop off that is…but it was a heck of a lot of fun and hopefully someone here will benefit from my long locks! I must say…no better scissors to do the trick than those of the Hair Princess! (Trust me folks, I’ve been going to her for 7 years, and never have I walked away with a bad cut or color) So here’s a 10 minute sketch of my new bed head this morning…still sassy!

Thanks Renata and Bekah for a supremely fun Friend-a-versary! Oh and for the complete run-down on our day, be sure to visit Bekah’s Blog…(real pics over there!)

p.s. It was great to see you again too Charla!

toying…

June 26, 2008

with the idea of abstraction…it’s been rather consuming as of late.

a rough pencil sketch…

hoping to bring this into paint today, along with some others.  Oh and a fabulous art lesson with my little apprentices today.  We studied flowers like the late Georgia O’Keeffe.

Great Aunt Barbara Jean always has a pad of paper next to her phone…upon which she doodles like mad anytime she is chatting away…I inherited this trait…and it’s pretty much automatic.  Brainless drawing…give me a pen/pencil and some piece of paper and I don’t even think…just start doodling.  This has been known to cause a problem or two for me…doodling on an important bill…I never could read my high school or college notes for lack of self control…scribbling so much on a piece of paper, that I forget it’s actually got a “real note” on there and throw it out…you get the idea.  Well, the other day I was chatting away on my celly, and I mindlessly doodled “Nick” on a file folder.  I swear this was not intentional…(except for the Bear’s logo on his shirt…I added that after the fact…)  but doesn’t it look like him?  Don’t ask about the lady with the crazy football shaped eyes…I don’t know where my brain was for that…(hmmm…maybe football was the common thread…?)
