roots…

January 13, 2010

…sometimes it’s good to get back to them.  In the midst of the Christmas rush, I received an inquiry about a traditional charcoal drawing.  This is not a trade I promote, but I thought it would be a breath of fresh air from all the inks and pet portraits floating around the studio.  So I accepted.  Sadly, the subject of the sketch had passed, and this drawing was a Christmas present to his mother.  (I wasn’t aware of the latter until after I accepted)  Not that I would have declined the offer, it just added a little extra weight to my shoulders to be sure and do him justice.  Thankfully, it turned out just fine…

(Please excuse the fact that this is a photograph…I didn’t want to smudge charcoal all over my scanner)

Such a thoughtful gift for their parents.  Congrats Newlyweds, and super thanks for giving me such a unique house to draw!

Somewhere in New Jersey, if my memory serves me correct…

Holiday Recap

January 2, 2010

Hey everybody!  We’re back from the “North Pole.” While we enjoyed our white Christmas,  it’s good to be back in the warm South…(even if we did bring a few sneezes and sniffles home with us)

Nick’s home in the summer vs. Nick’s home in the winter…

and no, I did not shovel one bit of that snow, nor did I make a snow angel…

but I did take a chilly walk through the forest preserve to capture some snowy pics.

I’m thinking a new painting or two is in order…in fact, that is part of my New Year’s Resolution…find more time to paint for me.

Hope you all had a lovely Holiday Season with friends and loved ones…tomorrow I start posting all the fabulous Christmas commissions I’ve kept under wraps for so long…so be sure to stop by…and a very Happy New Year to you all!

hugs ~ h
